Remembering Aaliyah: 9 Years Later

I cannot believe it has already been 9 years since Aaliyah has passed. I still remember I was up late a few days before I started 9th grade and I saw a link saying Aaliyah had died. I read it and I didn't believe it at first. When it was confirmed that it was real I still couldn't believe it. It was truly a sad day when the world lost it's angel.
Aaliyah's style and grace, poise and personality is something that people loved about her and will continue to miss. Her smooth voice over Timbaland's beats was a dynomite combintation. From her movie rolls to her music, Aaliyah had so much going for her. I can still remember seeing girls dressing like her and myself rocking out to all of her songs. There was something about her as an entertainer that was intriguing, raw and real. She seemed that even if you didn't know her that she would be the type of person who you could trust, someone that you knew. MTV caught up with Missy Elliot and she talked about the past and some of her favorite moments with Aaliyah.
"We've had so many memorable times. My most memorable is when me, her and Tim wore outfits alike! It was burgundy Pony outfits to the awards. Mind you, Aaliyah was petite so her Pony outfit looked so cute on her, but I kept looking at mine during the awards whispering to her saying, "I feel like a big-ass pony for real!" And we laughed and laughed! Too many memories to state them all! If she was still with us, she would still be at the top. Because she always stayed pushing herself to be better" - Missy Elliot
No doubt she was taken off of this earth too soon, but her music and work will live on forever. Much love Aaliyah Dana Haughton! January 16, 1979 - August 25, 2010
"It's hard to say what I want my legacy to be when I'm long gone. I want people to remember me as a full on entertainer and a good person." - Aaliyah

Trey Songs Feat Nicki Minaj - Bottoms up (video)

Although this video is basically a combination of Usher’s ‘OMG’ and ‘Lil Freak’productions, there is no doubt that this is one of the best videos released by Songz to date. The editing was on point and it went in a completely different direction that the obvious club scene.

However, despite his claims that this video would have taken a new direction than his previous works, the only thing different from some of his recent clips is that he managed to keep his clothes on and got everyone else half naked instead. Then again, what did we expect? There is only so much that Mandler could have done with the limited, one-track mind that defines Songz’s desperate attempt to prove his masculinity.

Sidebar: Did anyone else see Songz’s dutty wine at the 3:14 mark? Fling it up.

Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose & Ciara Set for Atlanta Black Pride

It’s going to be a triple Diva threat this Atlanta Black Pride weekend as Traxx Atlanta and Traxx Girls are bringing some of the most baddest chick in the entertainment industry to perform during Atlanta Black Pride weekend (September 2-7). The Traxx promotional group has been in the promoting business for now over 20 years and each year continues to raise the bar and bring quality entertainment to both local Pride attendees and those who come to Atlanta from around the world.

Last year, Lil Kim performed during Atlanta Black Pride weekend at Traxx and ironically this year, Nicki Minaj will take the throne. This is Nicki’s first Pride event and first performance since the BET Awards. Nicki has been working the media and in the studio gearing up for what some believe could be the biggest debut of 2010 next to Eminem’s “Relapse” album debut. Nicki will perform Saturday night (September 4th) at Traxx nightclub for the boys in decatur and the Freight Depot for the girls.

Supermodel, Vixen, and yes Kanye’s ex, Amber Rose is no stranger to the kids. Last year she partied hard at Atlanta Live for Atlanta Pride. This year Amber will be hosting Traxx Boys WET-Him party at E.R. Lounge on Saturday, September 4th from 2pm-8pm co-sponsored by Tempted 2 Touch.

Last but certainly not least, Atlanta’s own Ciara will be rocking with the kids for the first time ever during Atlanta Black Pride weekend. With her highly successful club banger “Ride” and her much anticipated album “Basic Instinct” nearing, Ciara is expected to give the kids a show they will never forget. Ciara will perform Sunday, September 5th.

Queen Latifa Comes Out

On August 4th,as prop 8 was overturned in California, Queen Latifah came out to embrace her long-time partner, Jeanette Jenkins in Europe. The couple were on a yacht with Alicia Keys and her new hubby, Swizz Beatz, according to RadarOnline. The double-dating sailors were spotted in the South of France when all the action happened in California where Prop 8 was deemed unconstitutional.Meanwhile, as the four loving friends find themselves on Mediterranean having a great time, there's now time to celebrate. Latifah doesn't show she's married according to her Wikipedia page, but perhaps that will chance now that Prop 8 has been overturned. In any case, it's good to see the singer as she came out to embrace her partner Jeanette Jenkins when the law disallowing gay marriage was overturned. Good timing, Queen.

Florence + The Machine

As the nominee's for the MTV Video Music Awards were announced earlier in the week I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my favorite acts Florence + The Machine. Florence Welch, lead singer of this British made band showcases her talent on self-titled EP. Having been compared to such artists as Fiona Apple & Kate Nash [also of British stardom] Welch seemed to be very surprised by the nominations [Best Rock Video, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and, the big one, Video of the Year] going on to tell MTV she was "still in shock and had watched the awards on tv as a kid." Welch also said she couldn't wait to see none other than Drizzy on the VMA stage. Theres a couple of downloads after the jump so make sure you check them out!

Will.I.Am Isn't too happy about MJ's New Album

Will.i.amSuperstar Will.i.am is upset over the release of Michael Jackson’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, set to hit stores in November.

The
Black Eyed Peas front man, who worked with the legendary King of Pop on the 2008 re-release of 'Thriller,' in which he remixed hits such as 'The Girl Is Mine' and 'P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)', vented his frustration earlier this week, calling it "disrespectful" to produce an album without the late King of Pop'sblessing.

"I don't think that should ever come out. That's bad," he told the Associated Press. "He was a perfectionist, and he wouldn't have wanted it that way. How you gonna release Michael Jackson when Michael Jackson ain't here to bless it?"

Will.i.am feels that Jackson has already paid his dues to the world.

"Now that he is not part of the process, what are they doing?" he continued. "Why would you put a record out like that? Because he was a friend of mine, I just think that's disrespectful. What's wrong with what he already contributed to the world?"

As previously reported by Singersroom, the as-yet-untitled album features 10 previously unreleased tracks. The disc is the first of a 10-project seven-year deal between Jackson's estate and
Sony Music but Will.i.am is adamant against his material being released.

"So what? You don't disrespect someone when they're gone," he said. "How much can you suck from his energy? ... Freaking parasites!"

Nicki Minaj New Album: Pink Friday November 23rd

I Tuned into a bit of Nicki Minaj's Ustream and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. Her Arrogance and sense entitlement was not what I expected. From refusing to go on camera until the viewers reached 10,000 to the constant eye rolls and cell phone distraction, Over all it seems Nicki is no too humble of celebrities. I have to admit after watching, I feel like less of a fan. She is a great entertainer and very talented, but what happened to being humble? Perhaps it's all part of her Barbie persona. After making several calls to fans, she finally announced the name of her album. She decided, since her album comes out the Tuesday before the day after Thanksgiving, dubbed "Black Friday" she thought that it was only suitable for her album name.

"Since I feel I have the power to change anything [Black Friday] I have decided to name it Pink Friday. so to carry on the great tradition of black friday we are naming the album. PINK FRIDAY. It's FRIDAY BITCHES"

So there it is. Nicki's debut album will be titled Pink Friday. The album drops November 23rd.

LeToya Preps Third Album, Down For Destiny's Child Reunion ?

LeToya LuckettLeToya Luckett is ready for new beginnings, not only as the new face of Luster's, but behind the mic.

According to LeToya, work has begun on the follow up to 2009s "Lady Love".

Speaking of the album at a press conference for Luster's 'Smooth Touch,' Luckett said the next album, her third, will be a bit different.

"I am taking a new direction with my music so there are a lot of new things are coming up for LeToya... be on the look out!!"

Beyond her own music, LeToya also took
time out to address rumors of a Destiny's Child reunion, admitting that she'd be down if the girls ever wanted to re-group.

"Destiny Child’s was a big part of my life and I was thankful to have that experience. And if that ever happened then I would love to be apart of it. It sometimes bugs me because I was reading on something recently -- A friend of mine said something like, “Why people hate on the fact that y’all back friends?” I’m like, “People love drama, people love drama”, and they don’t understand how God works when he wants a relationship healed, when he wants people back together then let that be so. You know, nothing should get in the way of that," Letoya
said, according to theYBF. "The girls and I are good friends now, we hang out, hit the pool and anybody that got something bad to say about that, I’ma pray for you. When you have any situation where there’s heartbreak and love lost--- On my end there was never any love lost. But when things get kind of get crazy and conflicted or whatever and things come back together, that’sbeautiful. People should applaud that and not be like 'I still want them to still be mad.' Like, why you mad son, what’s going on ?"

It is unclear when LeToya's next album will be available to listeners or whether she will remain with Capitol Records.

Lil Wayne Feat. Drake - Right Above (Snippet)

Weezy is back. A new snippet from The Drought is over 7. This song (feat. Drake) seems to prove yet again that Drizzy and Wayne know how to put out a track. They work well together. I am pretty excited to hear more from Wayne. For now, here is a little musical snack, just a snippet, but worth the listen. Click the Jump!
